Electrelane - Take the Bit Between Your Teeth
My Stereolab obsession also extends to bands that sound like Stereolab.

Boredoms - Pow Wow Now
Felt like posting something really bruising today. This will certainly work. From Soul Discharge.
Spaceman 3 - Revolution
Sonic Boom: “I guess it was also the refining point of a lot of my theories on minimalism being maximalism, ‘hypno-monotony’ (consciousness change via repetition)”.
Well said.
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1
I go through periodic obsessions with the Lips and Super Furry Animals that manifest differently than my other musical infatuations….probably because they’re just so damned weird, and more importantly, they’re committed to their weirdness as an identity.
Do You Realize? is the most beautiful track on this album, and Fight Test the most in your face, but the title track is my favorite. Such a wonderful album.
Dinosaur Jr. - Little Fury Things
I had every intention of posting a track from their new album, but I was unable to scroll past Little Fury Things without listening…and then I was lost.
Super Furry Animals - Hello Sunshine
Opening track from Phantom Power, which is actually my least favorite SFA album. This song kills me every time though, that lonely opening followed by the breaking dawn of Gruff Rhys’s voice. Hypnotic and subtle drumming on this too.
Stereolab - Orgiastic
From 1992’s Peng!
I want to live in Stereolab songs…or maybe just have them score a film or something.
Gorillaz - M1 A1
Oddly, this song appeared in a dream and woke me out of a sound sleep last night. Well, not the whole song, just the opening sequence (the haunting “hellooo - is there anyone there???”). I couldn’t for the life of me remember what song it was from, and spent 20 minutes looking through iTunes for an answer. Pink Floyd, Slint, Mogwai, Magazine…they all were wrong once I scrolled through. I finally gave up, Twittered my annoyance, then slapped myself in the head and Googled “song hello is there anyone there”. Voila.
Morphine - Cure for Pain
From the stylistically challenging and achingly beautiful Cure for Pain, a perfect album that’s consistently engaging from start to finish. More Boston band love as I head down to Somerville for the evening.
candy asked me if she died
if I could go on
of course I said I couldn’t
and of course we knew that’s wrong
