2010 The Year We Make Contact

Well, so we’ve got this to look forward to…

By the way, I really like this movie. It gets a bad rap, but there’s a bunch of cool stuff in it.  No, it’s not the art masterpiece that 2001 is, but it’s a solid sci-fi film, actually explains a bunch of things that were rather ignored in the first film, and the first film makes a lot more sense after seeing this one.

And no, it doesn’t explain so much as to take away from the first film, it just fills in some holes that are glossed over, like WHY IS HAL EVIL, and WHY IS HAL EVIL.

2001 is about questions, 2010 is about answers…and that’s why it feels so small in comparison. I lovethat 2001 scares and confuses, and I hate that 2010 comforts and explains. It’s an opiate for the masses.

However…favorite 2010 fact: the sfx miniatures (spacecraft, etc) were done by Luis Guzman, who was a talented miniaturist before becoming the ultimate “that guy” actor. BONUS!
