More About Me

sketch (via Peter*Martin)Spent a couple quiet hours sketching tonight. Been a long time since I put pencil to paper like this; 8th grade maybe? What is that, 13 years ago? Jesus. I still remember making the decision to leave my art class with Mr. Gaudette to choose football. This was right when I was going to graduate to oil paint, too. It’s not that I regret the decision - I loved high school football, and parts of college ball as well. I just wish it had been easier to balance the two, or I had been more aware of the ease with which I would drop the artistic stuff.Oh well. It is what it is.Below is the original, from Reiner Leist’s American Portraits. Click here to buy the book on Amazon. It was a farewell gift from my German colleagues in Munich when I returned to the States last year, and it has been a welcome addition to my library. The photos and stories come together for a really offbeat perspective on the pastiche of American culture.
