16mm scan

Tomorrow night my friends will play their first show, and if an ebay seller doesn’t fail me (I’m waiting on a rush shipment of a replacement takeup arm belt), I’ll be operating a 16mm projector from the back of the room. Cartoons, educational films, war reels, 1920s absurdities…there’s a lot to take in. This one just arrived today; it’s a stag film from the fourties or fifties, what passed for porn back then. It’s clearly a period where people weren’t yet uncomfortable with being on camera, because it was such a new experience. In the cold light of 2009, it feels almost intimate and innocent. I’m not sure if this will make it into the full rotation (objectively it would probably come off as misogynistic, which is pretty much the opposite of what this film feels like), but I may utilize a second projector to run it in slow motion between reel changes. Visual turntables.
